The Practice currently uses SMS text messaging for appointment confirmation, reminders and health promotion initiatives such as flu jabs, smoking cessation, NHS Health Check invitations and Repeat Prescription Notifications.

Appointment Reminders

This service is available for all patients who own a mobile phone and are aged 16 years upwards,  as well as children up to 13 years of age but is not available for 13 to 15 year olds, although they will be able to re-register in their own right from their 16th birthday.

Parents / guardians can register their children who are under the age of 13 years but once the child reaches their 13th Birthday this facility will be removed and their registered Mobile Number deleted from their patient record; this is to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained as best as possible and you will receive prior notification from the Practice before this access is removed.

Dispensary Text Messaging Service

The practice now operates a text messaging service for dispensing patients.  This will allow our Dispensing Team to notify you of when your repeat medication is ready for collection or whether there is a query with your repeat medication request which we need to discuss with you saving you from unnecessary journeys to the practice or unnecessarily long waits in the Dispensary queue.

New Data Protection Regulations from May 2018 (GDPR)

Under the new data protection regulations introduced from 25th May 2018, we will continue to contact patients via text messages regarding the delivery of care if they have provided consent to do so.

If practices are sending messages about recommended treatment for the management of a specific health issue, then this is defined as providing appropriate care for patients, not marketing purposes.
