Sickness Certificates
Self Certification
Doctors are not obliged to issue sick notes for periods of absence from work of less than seven days including weekends. After three days absence you should obtain a self certificate form from your employer. If your employer insists on a 'private certificate' then either he or you must be prepared to pay a fee for this service.

If you are absent from work due to ill health for more than 7 days, and have been seen by a medical practitioner recently, then you may contact the reception and request a sick certificate. This could help avoid an unnecessary appointment. This may take up to 48 hours to process. You must inform the call handler about the details of the person whom you consulted with recently. If you are unwell and have not yet been seen by a healthcare worker, then you will need a consultation before you can obtain a sickness certificate.
